Bioscreen Equipment
The Bioscreen is an automated turbidometric plate reader system. The system uses plates with 200 wells of 400 µl each. In these wells the growth of micro-organisms is monitored by measuring the optical density. The OD measurements are done every 5 minutes. The detection range of the Bioscreen is from E6 to E10 cfu's. In practice 5 replicates per condition are used, so in total 40 conditions can be tested in one run.
The collected data are transferred directly to the computer and dedicated software allows a quick analysis of the data. The Bioscreen is a powerful tool to test the effects of different media formulations on lag periods, growth rates, biomass accumulation and stability of the stationary phase.
